The Lake Travis Cavaliers will square off against the Vandegrift Vipers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Lake Travis took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 66-14 victory over Bowie. Given Lake Travis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Bowie is ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chaston Ditta had an outrageously good game as he threw for 336 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Lark Sidle, who picked up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Vandegrift put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Round Rock Westwood 38-7 at home. Vandegrift pushed the score to 24-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Round Rock Westwood had little chance of recovering from.
Brendan Fournier was on fire: he rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Fournier was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. Another player making a difference was Kent Sullivan, who rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
The victory makes it two in a row for Lake Travis and bumps their season record up to 8-2. As for Vandegrift, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0.
Lake Travis beat Vandegrift 40-28 when the teams last played back in November of 2017. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Vandegrift's Isaiah Smallwood, who rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Lake Travis to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
