North Sevier has gone 8-2 against Monticello recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Wolves will host the Buckaroo at 3:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While North Sevier's win against Grand County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Red Devils on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since March 6th.
North Sevier's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Parker Jensen, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Jensen has posted since back in April of 2025. Another was Zander Christiansen, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
North Sevier was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Monticello hadn't done well against Gunnison Valley recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Buckaroo narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bulldogs 7-5.
Triston Felix and Jackson Keyes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Felix struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Keyes tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Monticello is 5-2 when Felix posts eight or more strikeouts, but 3-4 otherwise. At the plate, Felix got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Keyes went 3-for-5 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Arturo Guiterrez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Monticello's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-2 (and 1-4 when he doesn't).
Monticello's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for North Sevier, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. North Sevier has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Monticello struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
North Sevier couldn't quite finish off Monticello when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 12-10. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
