2A-2 Region III District 9 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Hughes Springs extended the longest winning streak in 2A-2 Region III District 9 this week by beating Pewitt, 40-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Mustangs.
Elysian Fields moved up to 424 from 470 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Yellowjackets climbed the ranks as a result of defeating De Kalb 61-0.
Elysian Fields' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Trevor Spear threw for 88 and one touchdown and Zane Barge had 50 yards receiving. On the ground Christian Smith chipped in 113 yards.
Elysian Fields' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Yellowjackets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Spear has thrown for 746 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Smith has 11 catches for 272 yards. Tanner Davis leads the league in rushing with 472 yards.
A big matchup in 2A-2 Region III District 9 this week will be when Waskom takes on Eric King's team. As it stands, the Wildcats are in third, while the Yellowjackets are in sixth.
Elysian Fields took down the Bears 61-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Spear ran for 44 yards in the win.
