It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the St. Brendan Sabres can now relate to. They were dealt a 55-0 defeat at the hands of Norland on Thursday. While losing is never fun, St. Brendan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Norland is ranked sixth).
Julian Fresen threw for 39 yards on two of ten attempts. Nick Castro was his top target, picking up 39 receiving yards.
Norland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Juan Rodriguez, who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Rodriguez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards. Isaiah Scott also helped out as he racked up 113 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding St. Brendan to a paltry 42 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Norland's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out five times before it was all said and done. Demonte Oliver was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
This is the second loss in a row for St. Brendan and nudges their season record down to 7-4. As for Norland, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
St. Brendan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Norland will be playing at home against Monsignor Pace at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monsignor Pace is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
