The Campo Verde Coyotes stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mountain Pointe 62-29 at home. Given Campo Verde's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Mountain Pointe is ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Kelsey Watts, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 20 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Campo Verde's points. Another player making a difference was Kdynce Parks, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Loss or not, Mountain Pointe got some senior leadership from Amiyah Dedrick and Alexis Emerson-Berryhill. Dedrick scored ten points along with nine rebounds, while Emerson-Berryhill. scored 13 points along with three steals.
Mountain Pointe struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Campo Verde racked up 16 assists.
Campo Verde's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Mountain Pointe, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-18.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Campo Verde will take on Casteel at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Casteel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Thursday. As for Mountain Pointe, Mountain Pointe and Combs will face off at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Combs is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
