Olivia Hand was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Sage Smeltz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayla Hand, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Schuylkill Haven came up short against Schuylkill Valley on Monday and fell 5-2.
Allison Scherer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Schuylkill Haven saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joie Schoffstall, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Teagan Wehr was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Williams Valley's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Schuylkill Haven, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Williams Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Schuylkill Haven struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Williams Valley took their victory against Schuylkill Haven in their previous matchup on April 3rd by a conclusive 11-3 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hurricanes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
