The Lightridge Bolts's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Potomac Falls. While losing is never fun, Lightridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while Potomac Falls is ranked 20th).
It was another big night for Johnny Opiola, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and six assists for Potomac Falls. Opiola has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Colby Margenau, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Lightridge's defeat was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Potomac Falls, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lightridge will take on Stone Bridge at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Potomac Falls won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Briar Woods at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Ryan Brzezanski and Opiola.
