Even though Putnam City West has not done well against Booker T. Washington recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Putnam City West walked away with a 34-23 victory over Booker T. Washington. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Putnam City West.
Putnam City West's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dujuan Knight, who rushed for 119 yards, and also picked up 89 receiving yards. Knight was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 63 yards. Shyheim Johnson also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Ponca City's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 48-13 loss at the hands of Choctaw. While losing is never fun, Ponca City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Choctaw is ranked 21st).
Putnam City West's victory bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Ponca City, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 5-5.
Putnam City West was taken down by Ponca City 43-6 in their previous meeting back in October of 2021. Can Putnam City West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
