Independent School recap November 5, 2013
Brooks was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from 14th to 11th in Independent School. Brooks beat Groton School 22-20 earlier in the week.
Milton Academy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Middlesex, 24-14. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Mustangs.
Thayer Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jack Becker threw for 100 and 2 touchdowns and Conor O'Brien had 55 yards receiving. On the ground Sam Murphy contributed 68 yards. Brendan Ford helped Thayer Academy's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 27 yards.
O'Brien was the best receiver in the league this week as the Tigers bested St. Mark's. O'Brien racked up 2 receptions for 55 yards. Ford helped Thayer Academy's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 27 yards.
Thayer Academy's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Becker has thrown for 1,217 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while O'Brien has 25 catches for 405 yards. Becker also leads the league in rushing with 279 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Noble & Greenough takes on Milton Academy. At the moment, the Bulldogs are in third, while Kevin Macdonald's team is in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Governor's Academy takes on Belmont Hill. The Governors have allowed 92 points this season, while the Hillies have given up 96.
The Lions moved up to 69 from 258 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. St. Mark's climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Thayer Academy 21-0.
