The Jackson Ironman/Ironladies will square off against the Fairland Dragons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jackson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Jackson's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Wednesday's struggle, when Hillsboro hitters got past them. The Ironman/Ironladies came up short against the Indians on Wednesday, falling 15-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Ironman/Ironladies have suffered since April 20, 2024.
KJ Worsham and Lillie Eberts did some serious damage despite the final result: Worsham went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Eberts scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Daycee Howard also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Fairland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Chesapeake. On the bright side, the eight- run effort marked the Dragons' highest-scoring game to date.
Maddie Short spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Katie Dehart was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and one triple. Another player making a difference was Jordan Spencer, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base.
Fairland's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Jackson, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2.
Fairland's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Jackson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Fairland, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Jackson keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
