West Catholic has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Catholic Central Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West Catholic extended their postseason success on Friday against Oakridge. They claimed a resounding 45-0 victory over the Eagles at home. Given West Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Oakridge is ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Catholic had a senior duo take command as Charlie DeBruyn gained 211 total yards and three touchdowns and Alek Wickstrom threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes. Nolan Rinehart got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
West Catholic's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Ethan Stoner was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Meanwhile, Catholic Central waltzed into Friday's match with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They blew past Berrien Springs, posting a 49-7 victory on the road.
West Catholic's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. As for Catholic Central, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
West Catholic was dealt a bruising 44-6 loss at the hands of Catholic Central when the teams last played back in November of 2021. Can West Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
