The Miller Buccaneers put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial 59-40. Given Miller's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial is ranked 333rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Broderick Taylor was his usual excellent self, rushing for 155 yards and three touchdowns, while also picking up 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Taylor's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Trevor Long was another key contributor, throwing for 334 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luke Johnson, who picked up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Billy White III, who threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Miller's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-3.
Miller will head out on the road to face off against Victoria West at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Kamauri Montgomery and Taylor. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Victoria East at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. One thing working in Victoria East's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four contests.
