On Friday, Simon Kenton earned a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross. The win continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won four in a row.

Tre Beach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Charlie Overton was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Ian Lawrence was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Newport Central Catholic has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.73 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They came up short against Beechwood, falling 12-4. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Like Simon Kenton, Newport Central Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Henry Brooks. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Brooks has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
Brooks wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Parker Hurtt, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another was Chris Meyer, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Newport Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Simon Kenton, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3-3.
Simon Kenton suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Newport Central Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
