The Cimarron-Memorial Spartans will be playing at home against the Chaparral Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cimarron-Memorial will be strutting in after a win while Chaparral will be coming in after a loss.
On Monday, Cimarron-Memorial didn't have too much trouble with Cheyenne on the road as they won 66-52. Given Cimarron-Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Cheyenne is ranked 80th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chaparral suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 63-34 loss at the hands of Legacy. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Chaparral has scored all season.
Chaparral's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Qualib Ghallab, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds, and Elijah Bard who scored six points along with seven rebounds. Ghallab is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season.
Cimarron-Memorial pushed their record up to 12-7 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Chaparral, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Cimarron-Memorial against Chaparral when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 79-43 win. Does Cimarron-Memorial have another victory up their sleeve, or will Chaparral turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
