Cromwell is on a three-game streak of home losses, Floodwood an eight-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Cromwell Cardinals will take on the Floodwood Polar Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cromwell knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Floodwood likes a good challenge.
Cromwell pushed their score all the way to 67 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 80-67 to Carlton/Wrenshall. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (59), Cromwell still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Cromwell had strong showings from Brady Dahl, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds, and Dylan Nyberg, who scored 22 points. Nyberg continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Tucker Korpi was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Floodwood suffered their biggest loss since December 4, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Littlefork-Big Falls, falling 114-53.
Despite the loss, Floodwood saw an underclassman step up: Jonah Spindler scored 39 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spindler has scored all season.
Cromwell has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Floodwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Cromwell hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 68.1 points per game. It's a different story for Floodwood, though, as they've been averaging only 36.2 points per game. The only thing between Cromwell and another offensive beatdown is Floodwood. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Cromwell against Floodwood in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 95-38 victory. Does Cromwell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Floodwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
