The St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were dealt a 58-28 defeat at the hands of Episcopal. While losing is never fun, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Episcopal is ranked 34th).
Leading Episcopal to victory were Princess Akojenu and Ava Sawi. Akojenu dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Sawi scored 30 points along with six rebounds. Akojenu has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Coever Dixon, who scored three points along with two steals.
St. Stephen's & St. Agnes' loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Episcopal, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Stephen's & St. Agnes will challenge Madeira at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Stephen's & St. Agnes is facing Madeira at the right time seeing as Madeira is stuck on a eight-game losing streak. As for Episcopal, they will head out on the road to take on Holton-Arms at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
