Carlsbad is on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Granite Hills is on a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. After each having a week off, both teams will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on November 9th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
A well-balanced attack led Carlsbad over El Camino in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Carlsbad blew El Camino out of the water with a 31-3 final score. Given Carlsbad's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked ninth, while El Camino is ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Mason Walsh, who rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. Walsh was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Julian Sayin, who threw for 196 yards and a touchdown on only 17 passes.
Meanwhile, Granite Hills made easy work of Grossmont on Thursday and carried off a 44-22 victory. 44 seems to be a good number for Granite Hills as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Granite Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Max Turner, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Benitez, who threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 10-0 season records intact.
Everything came up roses for Carlsbad against Granite Hills in their previous matchup back in April of 2021 as the team secured a 63-14 win. Does Carlsbad have another victory up their sleeve, or will Granite Hills turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
