The Cienega Bobcats waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They escaped with a win against Buena by the margin of a single free throw, 46-45. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Cienega also won the last time the pair played last Thursday.
Cienega got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mia Kelley out in front who scored 13 points along with five assists and four steals. Elizabeth Puente was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Buena's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was London Richardson, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Hohman, who scored 11 points.
Cienega now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Buena, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
Cienega will be playing at home against the Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Ironwood Ridge is ranked 92nd, while the Bobcats are ranked 117th). Buena does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
