It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Port Charlotte Pirates had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Barron Collier at home to the tune of 68-31. Considering Port Charlotte has won nine contests by more than 32 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Edd Guerrier went supernova for Port Charlotte, rushing for 212 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Another player making a difference was Ifeany (Ike) Perry, who rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Barron Collier's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Niko Boyce, who threw for 343 yards and four touchdowns, and Caden Hudson who picked up 84 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The win was the sixth in a row for Port Charlotte, bringing their record for this year to 9-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Barron Collier, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.
Port Charlotte will head out on the road to face off against Naples at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Naples will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Barron Collier will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Charlotte at 6:00 p.m. on May 22, 2024.
