Gretna and Papillion-LaVista are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Dragons will head out to challenge the Monarchs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Gretna's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Fremont by a score of 3-0. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Griffin Goldman, who gave up just a hit to keep Fremont off the board. Goldman has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gretna saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Lakers, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Papillion-LaVista got the win against Bellevue East on Thursday by a conclusive 6-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Monarchs have posted against the Chieftains since March 18, 2021.
Landyn Albrecht made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Papillion-LaVista is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Albrecht was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaac Pamaran, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Papillion-LaVista is undefeated when Pamaran posts two or more runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evan Eddie, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Papillion-LaVista has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Gretna, their record is now 10-12.
Gretna might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from Papillion-LaVista in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
