Somerset is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Central Cambria is on a four-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Eagles will welcome the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Somerset 2.2, Central Cambria 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Friday, Somerset made easy work of Clearfield and carried off a 16-1 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Colt Hagans was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hagans was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kahne Foltz, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Zane Hagans, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Somerset was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Central Cambria hadn't done well against Forest Hills recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Red Devils skirted past the Rangers 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Devils have posted since April 20, 2024.
Central Cambria also got a great performance from Owen Harringer as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
At the plate, Central Cambria let Grady Snyder and Brayden Blasko run wild. Snyder went 3-for-4 with one triple and one run, while Blasko went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Blasko brought in this season. Ben Howard was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Somerset's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Central Cambria, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Somerset has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. However, it's not like Central Cambria struggles in that department as they've averaged .504. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
