The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers will challenge the Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Isle of Wight Academy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Peninsula Catholic. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chargers.
Meanwhile, Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association entered their tilt with Miller School of Albemarle on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Mavericks 25-3. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Sophia Peterson and Audrey Haywood were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Peterson struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Haywood pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Peterson went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Haywood went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. Those four hits gave Haywood a new career-high.
In other batting news, Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association got a massive performance out of Madison Machotka, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave Machotka a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlie Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.
Isle of Wight Academy pushed their record up to 9-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association, their win bumped their record up to 14-5.
