Last Thursday, Desert Edge beat Buckeye 8-3.
Desert Edge got a great performance from Chase Downing as he struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave Downing a new career-high.
At the plate, Desert Edge let Cooper Zaremba and Tyson Kinnear run wild. Zaremba scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Kinnear scored a run while going 2-for-4. That run was Zaremba's first of the season. Devin Martinez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Desert Edge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Canyon View earned a 4-1 win over Notre Dame Prep on Saturday.
Landon Hood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brock Berlan was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Edge, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Desert Edge came up short against Canyon View in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can Desert Edge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
