Arch Manning and
Newman (New Orleans) improved to 7-0 with a 76-0 homecoming win against overmatched Cohen (New Orleans), which suited up just 15 players. The score at the end of the first quarter Friday was 46-0 and a running clock followed the rest of the way.
The nephew of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch completed 9 of 11 pass attempts for 169 yards and five touchdowns, all in the first quarter and his night was through.
The Greenies took advantage of four turnovers and ragged special teams play to drop Cohen to 0-4. The Green Hornets have been outscored 224-0 in those four games while two other contests have been called off due to COVID-19 concerns.
Manning, the 2019 MaxPreps Freshman of the Year, didn't have to do much while throwing his touchdown passes. The first play of the game set the tone as he threw quick screen left to
John Charbonnet, who raced down the left side 62 yards for a touchdown.
Charbonnet caught another touchdown pass of 15 yards from Manning, who spread the ball around the rest of the quarter. He fired TD passes to tight end
William Randle (7 yards) and running backs
Sterling Scott (14 yards) and
Joseph Pleasant (17 yards).
A pick six by
Lyons Cook, a 32-yard punt return for touchdown by
Pike Philibert and two safeties on bad punt snaps made it 60-0 at halftime. The contest was in stark contrast to the last two weeks for the Greenies, who pulled out tough wins over Riverside Academy (31-26) and St. Charles Catholic (14-7).
Newman closes out their regular season next week at South Plaquemines.
Arch Manning needed only 11 attempts to pile up five touchdown passes in Friday's blowout win.
