Basketball Recap: Lewistown Takes a Loss

Lewistown lost against Brown County back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lewistown Indians lost 74-48 to the Brown County Hornets. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 413th, while the Hornets are ranked 100th).

When it comes to explaining why Lewistown lost, don't look at Joley McLaughlin. Despite the final result, she went 6 of 9 en route to 18 points and five rebounds. That's the most points McLaughlin has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Carsyn Braun, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Lewistown has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. As for Brown County, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

When Lewistown and Brown County next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Lewistown will try to stop Illini Bluffs' three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Brown County will take on Sherrard and their four-game winning streak at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
