The Meridian Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 43-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Freeman. While losing is never fun, Meridian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Freeman is ranked 34th).
Meridian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaala Stewart, who scored seven points. Another player making a difference was Kaira Niederklein, who scored 12 points.
Meridian has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Freeman, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Meridian will head out on the road to face off against East Butler at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. As for Freeman, they will be playing at home against Malcolm at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
