The Hillcrest Christian Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Silliman Institute Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
After a string of four wins, Hillcrest Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 46-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Joseph Catholic. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hillcrest Christian in their matchups with St. Joseph Catholic: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Hillcrest Christian got a solid performance out of Jaivyn Carter, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Severe McNeary was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
Meanwhile, Silliman Institute pushed their score all the way to 62 back in November, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Christian Home Educators Fellowship. While losing is never fun, Silliman Institute can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Christian Home Educators Fellowship is ranked 26th).
Hillcrest Christian has yet to win a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 9-3 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Silliman Institute, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Hillcrest Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Silliman Institute in their previous matchup back in November, but they still walked away with a 53-49 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hillcrest Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
