The Okawville Rockets have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Mater Dei at home by a decisive 55-40 margin on Wednesday. If Okawville was looking for revenge after losing 41-40 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Defeat or not, Okawville got some senior leadership from Alayna Kraus and Madisyn Wienstroer. Kraus scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Wienstroer. scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Wienstroer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.
Alyssa Koerkenmeier was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds for Mater Dei. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Koerkenmeier has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Trame, who scored 15 points.
Okawville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season. As for Mater Dei, their victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-6.
Okawville will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. Sparta is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Mater Dei, they will head out on the road to face off against the Lancers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Belleville East will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Knights are ranked 22nd).
