Northern recap Sept. 26, 2012
Kaden Culp and Stevie Albers provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Klamath Union. The connection was good for 80 yards, the longest such play in Northern this season.
Corning's Chayce Maday rumbled for the longest rushing play in the league this season in his game against Willows last week. Maday's team beat the Honkers as he sprinted for 63 yards on the play and finished with 102 in all.
Central Valley's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Timmy Naylor threw for 187 and three touchdowns and Kody Conner had 121 yards receiving. On the ground Conner chipped in 112 yards. Zach Lowery helped Central Valley's passing attack out by catching one ball for 41 yards.
Culp provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Yreka defeated the Pelicans. He completed six passes for 143 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 72 yards. Culp's favorite target this week was Albers, who caught three passes for 113 yards.
Yreka's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Miners feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Culp has thrown for 635 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Gabe Durney has 11 catches for 207 yards. Culp also leads the league in rushing with 421 yards.
A big matchup in Northern this week will be when Corning takes on Lassen. At the moment, John Studer's team is in third, while the Grizzlies are in fourth.
The Miners extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Klamath Union, 21-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the Yreka.
