It was a good run, but the Union County Fightin' Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Trenton. Union County has not had much luck with Trenton recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Union County still got an impressive performance from Thomas Williams , who scored 25 points. Williams scored a full 52.1% of Union County's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Johnte Nichols, who scored six points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Trenton found their leader in underclassman Mason VunCannon, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. That's the first time this season that VunCannon pulled down eight or more rebounds. Nathan Ridgell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Union County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Trenton, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Baker County at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. As for Trenton, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Chiefland at 8:00 p.m.
