Jackson-Reed has won 18 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Roosevelt has won 18 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Tigers will welcome the Roughriders at 4:00 p.m. Jackson-Reed knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Roosevelt likes a good challenge.
Jackson-Reed is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: Coolidge, who was ranked 16th at the time (Jackson-Reed was ranked first). The Tigers didn't even let the Colts on the board on Friday, marking the Tigers' second-straight 21-0 shutout. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 19 games by six runs or more this season.
Jack Klein looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Giancarlos Ramirez was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Brauss, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Roosevelt walked away with it. They came out on top against the Crimson Tide by a score of 5-2 on Friday.
The team relied heavily on Desmond Davis, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Harrod - Daniels, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Roosevelt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Jackson-Reed is on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-6.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jackson-Reed has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .523. However, it's not like Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've averaged .523. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Jackson-Reed's way against Roosevelt in their previous meeting last Friday, as Jackson-Reed made off with an 18-0 win. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Roughriders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
