After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Lanier (Jackson, Miss.) held on for a 7-0 victory over
McClain (Lexington, Miss.) on Saturday. The difference for the Bulldogs was it threw a touchdown.
The score was knotted at zero heading into the half. The Bulldogs took the lead for good on a passing touchdown with 3:00 left in the fourth quarter.
The victory will ease some of the sting of Lanier's close 8-6 loss to the Mustangs last season.
The loss comes after McClain defeated Marshall 64-0 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for LHS, which was coming off a 44-0 defeat at the hands of Jim Hill in its previous game. The loss snapped McClain's 3-game winning streak. The victory snapped the Jackson school's 3-game losing streak.
McClain (3-1) goes up against Yazoo County in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Lanier (1-3) locks horns with Starkville in a 5A Region 2 game.
