The Altamont Longhorns will take on the Millard Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Altamont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
Altamont saw some tournament action on Saturday. They lost 9-2 to Providence Hall. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Altamont saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Preslee Thacker, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four matchup, Millard brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They blew past Kanab 14-4 on Tuesday. Considering the Eagles have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Macie Wade tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Millard got a massive performance out of Maren Davies, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Maggie Stephens, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Millard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kanab only posted an OBP of .364.
Altamont's loss dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Millard, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-12.
Millard's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Altamont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Millard, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Altamont keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Altamont came out on top in a nail-biter against Millard in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Longhorns have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
