The Moorpark Musketeers will square off against the El Segundo Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Moorpark has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Moorpark took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Simi Valley 9-8.
Kiley Finnerty looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That hit marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, Rylie Cregut and Ava McGowan did most of the damage at the plate: Cregut went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while McGowan went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Cregut has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathalie Hernandez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Moorpark hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Simi Valley struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, El Segundo waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with 13 straight wins... but they left with 14. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Spartans.
Jacy Lindsay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Charli Pages was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Marilyn McCaverty was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Moorpark is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for El Segundo, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3.
Moorpark took their win against El Segundo in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Musketeers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
