It was a good run, but the Northwest Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their 16-game winning streak on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 69-34 loss at the hands of Tipton. Northwest was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-14.
Tipton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Schlotzhauer led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Schlotzhauer is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Clara Williams, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Northwest's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-1. As for Tipton, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Northwest will face off against La Monte at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. La Monte will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 473rd, while Northwest is ranked 70th). Tipton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Jefferson City at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Jefferson City will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
