Roseburg hasn't had much luck against Sheldon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Indians will welcome the Irish at 4:30 p.m. Roseburg's pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so Sheldon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Roseburg is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Oregon's top teams: North Medford, who was ranked 15th at the time (Roseburg was ranked ninth). The Indians fell just short of the Black Tornado by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the sixth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Jasmine Morales put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Morales was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
In other batting news, Terra Singleton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Danika Opp, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Sheldon made easy work of North Medford on Saturday and carried off an 11-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Irish, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Soraya Dorsey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Braelyn Stone and Presley Debaldo did most of the damage at the plate: Stone went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Debaldo scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Debaldo has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kara Pierson, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Sheldon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.
Sheldon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Roseburg, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-2.
Roseburg suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Sheldon when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
