The Athens Bulldogs had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They blew past Meigs 66-41. Given Athens' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Meigs is ranked 651st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Asa Holcombe, who dropped a triple-double on 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 16 steals. She also posted eight assists for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brystol Stump, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds.
Athens' victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Meigs, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Athens will head out on the road to face off against Alexander at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Alexander focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Monday. Meigs and Belpre will round out the year against one another at 12:00 p.m. on December 27th at.
