While Chartiers-Houston's victory against Bentworth wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Buccaneers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 win over the Bearcats on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 16, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Josh Hawkins was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Julius Livingston was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Chartiers-Houston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Meanwhile, Burgettstown suffered their closest defeat since April 1, 2025 on Thursday. They fell just short of Toronto by a score of 7-5.
Burgettstown saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Snyder, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Snyder's first of the season. Another was Matthew Bredel, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Chartiers-Houston now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Burgettstown, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Chartiers-Houston's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Buccaneers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Burgettstown, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Chartiers-Houston continue to outrun the ball?
