This season hasn't been kind to the Maryvale Panthers, who are still winless after their eighth game. They had to suffer through a rough 79-22 loss at the hands of North. Maryvale was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-11.
Dalia Valdez was Maryvale's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
North found their leader in underclassman Xxylina Flores, who scored 28 points along with five steals. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Saniyah Downing, who scored 18 points along with seven steals.
Maryvale's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-8. As for North, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6.
Maryvale will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Browne at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Browne comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. North will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Coronado at 12:00 p.m. on December 27th. Coronado will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while North is ranked 133rd).
