The Palmetto Ridge Bears waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down Bonita Springs 51-36. Given Palmetto Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Bonita Springs is ranked 794th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Calven Charles was his usual excellent self, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and five steals. He hasn't dropped below two blocks for 12 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Holmes, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Palmetto Ridge pushed their record up to 15-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Bonita Springs, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-16.
Palmetto Ridge will square off against Sarasota at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bonita Springs, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against East Lee County at 7:30 p.m.
