University is 0-5 against DeLand since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The University Titans will look to defend their home field against the DeLand Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with University sitting on three straight victories and DeLand on four.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but University had no problem doing just that on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat New Smyrna Beach 42-0 at home. University might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.
University's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jabailey Morris, who rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and Malachi Walters, who threw for 148 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Jermane Hayes also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, DeLand's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Spruce Creek by a score of 35-25.
DeLand had a senior duo take command as Javon Ross rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries and Tyron Moore rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
University's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for DeLand, they have yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record.
University came up short against DeLand in their previous matchup back in October, falling 14-3. Can University avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
