Ocoee hasn't had much luck against Horizon recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Knights will look to defend their home field against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Ocoee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Ocoee is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since February 27, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against St. Cloud, falling 9-1. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ocoee saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Akya Feacher, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Horizon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Braves.
Mackenzie Duncan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
Feacher wasn't the only one making solid contact: Horizon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive matches.
Horizon pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Ocoee, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ocoee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Horizon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Ocoee might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Horizon when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
