Wells waltzed into their contest on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Excel Christian Warriors an 8-0 shutout. The Leopards might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.
Cesar Beruman and Teagan Calton made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Beruman kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Calton struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Beruman scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Calton scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Charley Peterson was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Dentin Allen, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Wells pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.
