The Newberry Panthers will head out to take on the Williston Red Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Newberry will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Newberry had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Chiefland on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Indians 8-2.

Sarah Burns made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Newberry let Tristan Layfield and Madison Rodgers run wild. Layfield went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs, while Rodgers went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Layfield is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Olivia Tharp was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Williston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 5-2 to Branford.
Williston saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Bertrand, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Williston's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Newberry, their record is now 6-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Newberry has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Williston struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Newberry couldn't quite get it done against Williston in their previous meeting back in February as they fell 3-0. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
