The Affton Cougars will challenge the Bayless Bronchos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Affton has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Northwest hit Affton with a seven-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars lost 14-3 to the Lions. The Cougars have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Carter Kimmel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and earned one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Bayless had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Current get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bronchos, who have now won 12 games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Aiden Engert made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Andrew Bolden was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Henry Craig, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Bayless always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crossroads only posted an OBP of .400.
Bayless' win bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Affton, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
