The Hughesville Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Troy Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hughesville has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Troy will arrive with ten straight victories.
Last Friday, Hughesville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 28-22 to Muncy.
Despite the defeat, Hughesville had strong showings from Tyler Wetzel, who threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt, and Aiden Barlett, who picked up 85 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Troy put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Canton on the road to the tune of 52-0. Given Troy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Canton is ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Brendan Gilliland, who rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown. Gilliland's longest rush was for an incredible 91 yards. Lincoln Chimics also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Hughesville's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.3 points per game. As for Troy, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.
