The Ferndale Yellow Jackets will take on the Penns Manor Comets at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Ferndale will be strutting in after a win while Penns Manor will be coming in after a loss.
Ferndale had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Greater Johnstown on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets were the clear victors by a 16-9 margin over the Trojans. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Aubrielle Leverknight, who fired off two home runs, two stolen bases, and three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kauthar Quraishy, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Ferndale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Penns Manor entered their game against West Shamokin on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Comets came up short against the Wolves, falling 18-1. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Penns Manor saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Luther, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
Penns Manor's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Ferndale, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ferndale has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .516. However, it's not like Penns Manor struggles in that department as they've averaged .480. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ferndale couldn't quite finish off Penns Manor in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Will the Yellow Jackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
