The Central Heights Blue Devils will head out to challenge the Diboll Lumberjacks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central Heights has nine straight victories, Diboll has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Central Heights came out on top against Newton last Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run fourth inning. The Blue Devils never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kenzie Templeton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Templeton was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Central Heights let Brooklyn Wesley and Lawson Keeling run wild. Wesley went 2-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and one run, while Keeling got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Wesley has posted since back in February. Alaney Daniels also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Central Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in three consecutive games.
Huntington hit Diboll with a four-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lumberjacks came up short against the Red Devils, falling 11-1. That's two games in a row now that the Lumberjacks have lost by exactly ten runs.
Diboll saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nevaeh Chagolla, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Diboll's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Central Heights, their record is now 17-6.
Central Heights got the 'W' when the teams last played two weeks ago against Diboll by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
