Baseball Game Preview: Camden Central Lions vs. Union City Golden Tornadoes

The Camden Central Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Union City Golden Tornadoes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Camden Central lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Dresden, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. Camden Central blew past Dresden 12-2 on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Camden Central as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Carter Maines made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Camden Central let Eli Latendressee and Gage Johnson run wild. Latendressee scored two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Johnson scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. What's more, Johnson posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Jonderek Greer also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Union City). They were the clear victor by a 14-1 margin over Ballard Memorial on Thursday. Considering the Golden Tornadoes have won four matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Union City now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Camden Central, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
