Sentinel is 9-1 against Flathead since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Braves at 2:00 p.m. Sentinel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Sentinel is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Montana's top teams: Glacier, who was ranked third at the time (Sentinel was ranked fourth). The Spartans took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolfpack on Thursday.
Piper Whitman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hailey Papp made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Smith Milla also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, while Flathead put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Hellgate. The Braves blew past the Knights 11-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Braves.
Flathead got a massive performance out of Olivia Nyman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Lily Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Flathead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Sentinel has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-3 record this season. As for Flathead, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Sentinel hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Flathead struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Sentinel's way against Flathead in their previous matchup back in April, as Sentinel made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
